Charles Muller has spent his whole professional career in financial services in Luxembourg. During his time at the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI), he was in charge of the legal and tax, public policy and as well as communications and events departments. He assisted in the creation of ALFI’s EU representation office in Brussels, oversaw the trade body’s strategic implementation in the public policy space and maintained contacts with the EU Commission, Members of the European Parliament and the European Securities Markets Authority (ESMA – formerly CESR). He was in charge for ALFI of overseeing the EU’s regulatory agenda following the 2008 crisis which led among others to the AIFMD, UCITS5, MIFID2, PRIIPS…regulations.
At KPMG he continued his public policy work as the Head of the European Centre of Excellence for Investment Management regulation but also helped clients implement the many regulatory changes that impacted asset managers and their funds. He also maintained contacts with KPMG offices, asset managers, trade bodies and regulators in non-EU countries, especially in Asia and the US.
During his time at ALFI, Charles also developed an interest for sustainable finance, ESG and business and human rights. He supported the creation of the Luxembourg fund labelling agency Luxflag and of the ALFI working group on sustainable finance that he later chaired. Later at KPMG, he was also the Lead Partner on sustainability and participated in a Government led working group on sustainable finance.
